G4 466mhz, 1.12GB Ram, Mac OS 9.2.2, Illustrator 10.0.3.

"cant print the illustration" error message randomly, about 8 of 10 times.

This was happening with AI10 so I updated to 10.0.3.

5 computers running AI. 1 Computer having this grief. 1 Art Director near postal. Please save.

I get this when I cancel print jobs or long AI processes right in the middle of em. To fix I just pull up the printer queue so I can see the title bar message (should say something like 'busy'). Then I power down the printer and wait for the printer queue to say 'not available', then I turn the printer back on. Happens on Mac and PCs. Also, I havnt really found a benifit to using a PDF paste board and I suspect this is a PDF related error. BEHOLD! As Steve Jobs introduces us the latest in desk-lamp technology!

Thank you for your response. I will try this technique however I dont think that is it. My printers are all on a network. The PDF comment is interesting, I've had trouble with AI since PDF became tyhe file standard. I will look into that as well. Please, if anyone else has a similar problem and has fixed it post here. Thank you for your time.

I had this same problem on my WinXP machine. I had recently moved photos that some of my illustrator files pointed to. When I re-opened my .ai files, and directed ai to where those illustrations were, it printed fine. If redirecting ai to where the files are located doesn't work, you may have to remove the photos from the file, and re-place them.

good luck,

Thank you for the reply. I'm using a mac and the files have no imported photos or files of any kind. I guess since the reply have been so few that i'm the only one experiencing this and will assume it to be extension conflict and procede accordingly. Any other suggestion will still be appretiated

There are obviously issues with AI version 10 that Adobe has yet to address. I use a mac G4 running OS 9.1 and recently installed AI 10.0.3. Does not seem to recognize my HP lazer printer. If I reopen AS9.2 it prints the file without any problem.Likewise Photoshop 7.0 also recently installed prints fine. Its definitly an AI 10 problem.

I have the same problem here with AI v10.0 on WinXP on a Network Printer, There's gotta be a fix or something, also I'm havin' problems runnin' the v10.0.2 and v10.0.3 updates of AI, anyone have these problems?

I finally reverted back to win2k which is an upgrade imo. XP just sucked. I didn't know how bad til I got back to 2k. I also read on microsofts site that XP does not support appletalk so that pretty much did it for me.
