Hi there, Im after some help with installing a USB device in XP please.

The goal is to install a samsung phone. I get the error shown in the attatched picture,

This error is also the case when trying a differnt phone and USB flash drives

I have removed the device many times. also have removed related programs using add / remove programs. Have tried deleting the item from device manager then refreshing and have also tried newer driver s of the web.

The removable storage service is running ok

Any pointers apreciated

Are you on an AD domain and if so do you have a GPO restricting the use of USB devices?

Many thanks for the replies
answers:

Not on a domain

User is admin

does not work on other slots

And other non samsung devices (like USB flash) have fault also

In the BIOS settings for your computer, load the 'Fail-Safe' default settings, and then reactivate the most frequently used options such as USB Support.
