"Applying your personal settings" screen takes too much time ?

I have a windows 2000 server, and for some reasons from
past few weeks when i login to the system after giving
my username,password,domain it takes too much time
to get to the desktop.

"Applying your personal settings" screen takes too much
time.

There is nothing much on the desktop.



Any ideas ???

Its seems like a dns problem .
in your tpc/ip config add your dns server .

I agree with coco10. I had the same issue a few months ago.
If you have a DHCP Server make sure you add the DNS Server address it in the scope option for DNS.

Too much time means - 10 minutes

So you think its a DNS issue.

I have one more 2000 server in the network which is
a AD,DHCP server.


This server where i have this issue has 2 network cards

INTERNAL -- 192.168.X.X
EXTERNAL -- 64.X.X.X


Both are static address. ( even though there is a DHCP,AD server in the network for this server we have defined static address).


One more thing for the INTERNAL NIC card along with the static IP , we had given a static outside DNS ip address as well.

192.168.x.x
255.255.255.0
192.168.x.1

209.x.x.x
207.x.x.x


Any help !!!!

Did you check to make sure you have the DNS address in your
TCP\IP Setting of the Server your having problem with.

One more thing for the INTERNAL NIC card along with the static IP , we had given a static outside DNS ip address as well.

192.168.x.x
255.255.255.0
192.168.x.1

209.x.x.x if this your dns server change it for the internal adreess of your local dns server
and your problem gone.

Not sure but one of guy over here says, iternal DNS
address is good if its a FORWARDER , and he says its not
a forwarder.

And thats the reason outside DNS address is given.


Any ideas !!!

you can configure your local dns to be a forwar ist quite simple and dont have any futher troubles.
