The school where I go to has asked me to admin their merlin legend phone system over the summer. I am fairly aware of how to administer most functions of the system since I run the same one at home (R7 V12). I have not yet had an opportunity to directly administer the system, but have been notified of one existing problem (a very strange one) Everytime the receptionist makes an outgoing call (out of building, to clarify) the reciever of the call sees "AB Dick" on their caller ID. However, the caller id should show Notre Dame High School... I have no idea what could be causing this problem. Does this have something to do with the on-site switch, or is it a phone company problem? The school mostly relies on DID trunks (if that helps). Can this have something to do with the voicemail server (Intuity Map 5)?

Call your provider and arrange to have a test call trapped by them. They can sort it out for you.

AB Dick is the name of a manufacturer of office equipment like mimeographs. What kind of outbound trunks do you have, and can you figure out (perhaps via SMDR) what trunk is used by the receptionist? If calls are going out via an analog trunk (Loop start or ground start) there's no way the Legend can be providing the caller ID.

I'm going to have a look at the switch this friday. The people that notified me of this problem were unable to describe the system's exact setup very well, so I will in fact have to take a look myself. If I can get earlier access I will attempt to go in remotely through WinSPM and print the system setup. I agree that the legend can't pass caller ID info through the analog trunk. However, I think (not sure though) that the school may be using a T1 or something similar (PRI). Likewise, I will definately check which trunk the receptionist is using and how it is set up.

On the other hand, what makes this slightly more confusing is that the legend is running in key mode, so the lines are pooled. As far as I know the receptionist recieves the first idle line when she tries to dial out. However, maybe the previous installer configured a personal line for her.

It sounds like one of the school's lines (probably a roll-over line in a hunt group) may - in the past - have been a line used by AB Dick - which I believe was acquired or went out of business some time ago. If they do not have too many lines - I would have someone dial out on each one - in sequence - to a cell phone and see which specific line or lines is(are) the culprit(s). Then, the local telco can correct the problem.

There is a database that is maintained by LECs called LIDBE. This database is where LECs store names that are associated with various telephone numbers.

I would guess that, just as Tom suggested above, that one or more of the school's POTs lines used to be owned by AB Dick.

The school might want to contact the LEC to have them update the LIDBE.

OK, (Tounge in cheek) I see the problem, Notre Dame is a college, not a High School.

But really folks, as every one has said, since this is using REGULAR LINES, not a T1 or PRI, the problem is with the SERVICE PROVIDER, not any thing you have control of with the SWITCH!

OK, (lol) but the high school version is in Los Angeles!
