Quick Question:
I've done ASP Classic for years. I'm finally able to have some time to step up and learn ASP.NET. In the past I've used simply "SAM's Teach Yourself XXX in 24 Hours" to learn the majority of something. Does anyone have recommendations for learning ASP.NET that would have a quick turn-around rate (much like the SAM's books do), but would be thorough enough that I would have a solid understanding of most of ASP.NET by the time I finish the book in a timely-manner?

I used a Sam's Teach Yourself book at the beginning also to do the switch. I am not sure that gave me a good foundation though. I also have the Visual Basic.Net Bible by Bill Evjen. This was nice as an early reference while I was figuring out how to do what I used to do but didn't know how anymore.

Though, to be honest, my best source of information was articles on the web looking for how exactly to execute certain tasks. is a wonderful get yourself started resource.

Good luck. Once you get going you are going to be amazed with how easy it is to do stuff it used to take LINES of code to do.....

one good book i have seen is wrox.Press.Professional.ASP.Dot.NET.1.1

Good luck

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!

Not SAM's! E ;) I bought a Sam's Teach Yourself book once... (haven't touched them since).

I might go with Ecreations' suggestion - I haven't really come up against bad Wrox books, although apparently some of their books are pretty much hit and miss.

My personal suggestion would be an O'Reilly book. Every one of their books that I've read, from Perl to C++ have been awesome. Apparently their ASP.NET book is pretty good too (check out the reviews) -

lol, well, the SAM's have been hit or miss for me, just like you said the Wrox ones are as well (I've never tried a Wrox book before.) The C++ Sam's had errors in it for Visual C++, but worked for other's like Bohrland (sp?).

Anyway, do the Wrox or O'Reilly books have quick lessons so once can learn quickly? Are they direct and to the point, or do they elaborate on detail until you're blue in the face? Some people need the extra detail and examples; I can personally learn practically from the code alone, but some explaination along with it helps make it go a little quicker. I would like something that's accurate, but to the point so I can get through it quicker.

Which of those would be better?

I checked out those reviews AtomicChip. Most seem pretty good. Although there does seem to be a pretty clear concensus that the book is more directed towards C#, and I my focus would be on VB.NET. Do you think that it gave as much emphasis on VB.NET as the C#, or should I go with something else, like Wrox? (<-- directed towards anyone.)
