Howdy folks. I have two networked XP Pro machines at home. I have attached a USB external drive to one, everything works great. (It's mapped as my "H:" drive).

I'd like to be able to map a drive to the external drive from the second PC, but when I try to do so, I get an error saying:

"The mapped network drive could not be created because the following error occurred:

Not enough server storage is available to process this command."

Any ideas why this might be? I can successfully map to an internal hard drive on the same machine.

lol i was getting ready to link that site but bcastner just did!

Thanks, I will check this out tonight!

Be certain you make the registry edit at least on the computer hosting the USB external drive. (I would make the change on both).

The IRQSTackSize error is being essentially issued by the serving workstation, not the workstation attempting to access the shared drive over the network.

This is a common consequence of some antivirus products, the Norton/Symantec offerings most often mentioned.

Not surprisingly, bcastner's suggestion worked flawlessly.

Incidentally, for future reference, I only had to make the change on the "server" side of the equation.

I am happy it sorted the issue. As I mentioned above it is a curious error as one would think it was a station error, rather than the station reporting an error on the serving workstation.

Leave the other station alone, as Norton/Symantec or whatever application that made the registry change to begin with is usually happy with the adjustment. But you let sleeping dogs lie.

Best wishes,
Bill Castnr
