Can anyone here answer this? I have looked all over the CrystalDecisions site to no avail. We have a distributed java application that uses CR. All our clients have licensed copies of CR 8.5. We would like to start developing new reports in CR 9 Dev Ed and distributing them but leave the existing 8.5 reports on the client's systems. Is this 'do-able'? Is it as simple as redistributing new dll's or will clients need to upgrade license to CR9? Thanks for any insight into this.

The Version 9.0 runtime components can run 8.5 reports without any problems (just be sure to test that the older data sources are not posing a problem to the 9.0 components).

Cheers,

CUT, Visual CUT, and DataLink Viewer:
view, e-mail, export, burst, distribute, and schedule Crystal Reports.

Viewing reports on a web server via a java tool should be okay, but you can't send the rpt to them for local viewing unless they have the CR9 viewer

Any reports you develop in CR9 will not be available to your users with CR8.5 as crystal reports. Exporting the CR9 reports to Excel, RTF, PDF etc. will be okay.

However to view a CR9 report will require CR9 veiwer components built into an install.

If you are into java development, you might want to consider CR9 Advanced edition as it has some java support that is not available with the Devleoper edition.
