Question on monitoring

I am looking at getting some monitoring software for my network. I was wondering if any body knows if there are any relitivly cheap products out there that can monitor SNMP traps for routers and switches. I was also wondering if anybody has used BIG BROTHER to monitor their routers and switches. Also what is a good strategy in monitoring the equipment.

this is a beauty tool (with a lot of features) to monitoring routers and switches with SNMP.

For a not-too-expensive commercial product check out Ipswitch's new WhatsUp Pro (

http://www.ipswitch.com).

We are using the old version called WhatsUp Gold and are going to upgrade as soon as we have the resouces/time.

It provides a lot of bang for not many bucks.
