Ok, I'm piecing together a new machine from monarchcomputer.com. I am using an ASUS P4G8X motherboard. I am going to purchase two 512 MB sticks of PC-2700. Now I spoke with a tech from monarch, and he stated I should purchase the Corsair TwinX memory instead of the corsair VS memory I planned on. Now that's almost double the price!
He said the Twinx would run faster and such.
Would I notice a significant change if my memory is faster? I mean its a GB of RAM either way, and both are PC-2700, so how much of a difference could there be??? ________________________________________

It might just be that the TwinX modules have a lower CAS rating like CL2 or CL2.5. I would double-check that. Ask the rep what the latency rating is on the two. CL2 modules greatly outperform CL3 modules. However, they're just slightly faster than 2.5 modules overall.

Here's a brief definition of memory latency that I found:

"CAS" is short for "Column Address Strobe". CAS (CL2, CL2.5 and CL3) refers to latency, or the amount of time it takes for the memory to respond to a command. Latency is measured in terms of clock cycles, therefore CL2 modules complete the initial data access one cycle faster than CL3 modules. ~cdogg

He said the Twinx was CAS2 I think.
The VS (value series) is slower for sure. Do you think that the $150 price difference is justified? More importantly do you think its worth it?
Since price is becoming an issue for me, would you rather buy 512 of the CAS2 or 1GB of the CAS3?
Price is about the same. ________________________________________

Since the Corsair VS is CAS 2.5, then I'd say go with 1GB of that versus paying an extra $150 for CAS 2.

Simply ask the tech/salesperson for some hard data/numbers to back up what he is saying. Surely he has data to support his claim...
