First let me thank everyone in advance. My question is this. I limit a multi-line text field to 450 characters. Prior to submitting the page for processing I validate the fields. If the text field exceeds 450 characters I don't allow the field to be processed or the form submitted and I display the appropriate message to the user. What I would like to do is place on this page a counter that displays the number of characters remaining after each keystroke or backspace so the user knows how many characters they have remaining. Does anyone have suggestions or a link to a page where I can get some ideas.

Thanks guys you always came through for me.

DNG it worked like a charm with some modification, thanks.

Quick question on using a multi-line text field if I may ask? Maybe I should start a new thread?

How do I get my cursor to always start at the beginning of the field on a new record? I have to backspace to start at the beginning of the field to remove spaces. I use trim on the field when I post or write it to a database to remove those spaces.

Yes i would suggest you to start a new thread and post some code and the problem you are facing...

from your short description here i would say trim() function should work just fine...
