We currently run exchange 5.5 and have recently been working on rolling out PocketPC devices with WiFi cards to our sales staff. The WiFi connections come from Starbucks T-Mobile service. The Wifi connections work fine..

Here is my question.. What would be the best practice for offering these people full email functionality? I know I don’t want to run an open relay. At this time in theory they could check their email over pop services but not respond. I’m figuring VPN or password authenticated SMTP.

I’m looking for anyone’s experience or thoughts on this.

i would go with the VPN. failing that, maybe OWA with SSL.

I just came across your thread about your PPC users and the SMTP limitations of sending mail while they are remote.

Did you ever find a solution to this problem?

I noted the response about using OWA, but unfortunately it uses unsupported pop-up windows on version 5.5. I am about to resort to SMTP.com relay service with monthly fees, but was hoping something else could work.
