Hi! Is it possible to make some columns read-only and other columns updatable in the same table? I know you can make an entire database read-only, but am not sure about having part of a table read-only while other columns are updatable.

Ideally, all but one of the columns would be static, the latter field would be updatable.

I don't think it's possible but am not positive. I'm not a security guru at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You can't do this with the tables.

However, you can make tables read-only then create queries for the fields you want to allow updates to. Set the Run Permissions property of these queries to "Owner's" so it will use the owner's permissions. (This only applies to secure databases)

Ideally you want to stop the users getting to the tables - only let them update the data via forms. This way you can lock the fields you don't want the users to update.

Check out the AllowBypassKey in the Access help file, to prevent users from using the Shift key to bypass your startup (be careful with this - backup your database before setting this property in case you lock yourself out of it)

Hope this helps
