Is there an easy way to make it so the user cannot save anything to his desktop or my documents? I want to set the Home directory to auto create and give that user access to his folder.

But if possibly I don't want to store the users profile on the server or if I have to have the profile folder can I make security changes so they can't have a 6 gig folder on the desktop that gets copied to their profile folder and eat up all my storage.

If this is unclear post a question and I will clarify.

Thanks,

Aaron

You can create a Group Policy in AD the prohibits the users from saving files to their desktops. You can even prohibit them from saving files to the local drives as well. In that same policy, you can redirect the clients "My Documents" Folder on the desktop to the users home directory on the file server. Setup disk quotas on the user directories to manage the space on the server.

The details on how to accomplish these tasks can be researched on Microsoft's web-site.

Sounds like you a going in the right direction...

Thanks Kenny,

I thought there was a GPO for locking the desktop. I know about redirecting and I do use it for myself. But there are no quotas in place and I may not be allowed to create quotas. That's why I feared the quantity of stuff on people desktops if I change the way I am doing Home directories that the profiles are going to bring my file server to it's knees. I'm not positive they'll let me lock down the desktop either. There are quite a few people my bosses think are "above the law". No amount of documentation or explaining has worked for me yet. Wish me luck lol.

Thanks,

Aaron
