Question about Load Movie...

Folks:

I am wondering how the loading of a movie clip actually functions in Flash. If you call mc's using loadMovie at, for example Frames 10, 20 and 30, are those mc's loaded at each frame, or are they loaded with the top level swf file (frame 1)?

You don't really load a movie clip. The loadMovie action allows you to load an external .swf on to another level or in an empty movie clip already existing in the main movie.
Movie clips as such (symbol with a movie clip behaviour) are created within the main movie, are displayed or not, but you can't load a movie clip!
