Hello everyone, i hope someone could help me, my subject is about having 2 back-end servers. In production i have an exchange server configured as back-end and one gateway using iis conector smtp that sends and receive mail to and from internet.
Everything is working but now i need to add a second exchange server (back-end) to my domain.
I have done some steps like adding the machine to the same domain, and promoting to be a dc. Next step i have installed the exchange server install all the service packs. Now the problems have arrived.
The production scenario is working, on the new BackEnd server i create a new database and a new user mailbox.
Using outlook i connect to that mailbox, i can send mail internaly and externally, but using another mailbox on the old back-end server i cannot send mail. It display the following error.
The e-mail account does not exist at the organization this message was sent to. Check the e-mail address, or contact the recipient directly to find out the correct address.

I have try everything that i can remember, but i can´t find no solution for this problem.

If anyone have an hint on this, it will be great.

Thanks to all.

Didn't quite understand what wasn't working on there.

Exchange1 is backend and works fine.
Front End is just an SMTP bridgehead.
Exchange2 is new backend.

Exchange2 users can send to Exchange1 users.
Exchange1 users cannot send to Exchange2 users? Was that the problem?

Yes it´s in the same domain that exchange2 and i run the dcpromo in it so it is a domain controller.

I am having the same problem.

1 frontend
1 old backend(exchange1)
1 new backend(exchange2)
Users on exchange2 can send email fine.
Users on exchange2 can receive mail from the internet fine.
Users on exchange2 cannot receive mail from exchange1.

Any ideas?
Both are members of the domain, etc. Seperate DC/GC's online on the network.

The NDR is 5.1.1 and message is as follows.
The following recipient(s) could not be reached:
testuser@domain.com on 06/10/04 05:31 PM
The e-mail account does not exist at the organization this message was sent to. Check the e-mail address, or contact the recipient directly to find out the correct address.

thanks for any help!

I had this exact same problem when i was moving from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2000. I'm really trying to rack my brains as it was a while ago now.

Can you check if the messages are accumulating in the Local Delivery queue. This is found under the server, protocols, SMTP, Default smtp virtual server.

I think it was something to do with us having an IP address in the smart host field. If you right-click Default smtp virtual server, properties, Delivery tab, Advanced button. Is there anything in the smart host field?
