I launched a packet sniffer to monitor the "conversation" between the pc running ASA and the switch. The entire session, including authetication, is passed in clear text over the network.

I activated IPSec to secure communications over the network. I am wondering what other security protocols do you use when running ASA to secure the connection?

I use a pptp VPN to connect remotely. Under ip-services you can specify the port for the SAT session to go over.

In the future everything will work...

We also set ours up on a VPN behind a firewall. I have my UPS, Intuity, switch and call accounting system all in the same VPN for network security reasons. For remotely accessing the switch, I use a modem with ASA.
