Hi,
hope this is the right forum - it is the only area that came up on a search for "Active Directory".

I'm very green when it comes to Active Directory and had not even heard of LDAP before my boss asked me to look into ways of querying AD.

Does anyone have any pointers / good references for setting up an LDAP query in a .NET environment - how to get the path / connection etc etc ?

TIA

Rgds, Geoff

We could learn a lot from crayons. Some are sharp, some are pretty and some are dull. Some have weird names and all are different colours but they all live in the same box.

I would highly recommend the book "Active Directory Forestry" by John Craddock & Sally Storey. It goes into great detail on the LDAP side of AD (the book looks deceptively comic-like from the outside :p ).

Thanks Nick - I will look that up

Thanks for the link zbnet - I may need something a little more basic though ;-)

To be honest I am struggling just to set up an OLE DB connection to AD at the mo - no-one here seems to know where it is so that I can set up the connection !!

LOL - yep - been there and looked at that page. It is a business issue really - no-one can (apparently) tell me what server it sits on so I cannot configure my OLE DB connection to even start looking at it - never mind return some data !!! oh well - they'll just have to wait for the report to be written ;-)

zbnet - sorry no - not asking that. Thanks for the info that has been given so far - it will be useful when I actually get access to AD

Surely someone must know (who supports it?).
that is the 2nd part of my frustrations at the mo - apparently no-one as far as I can tell at the mo. !!!
