Query Timeout In "Open Table" command

here the deal. i am trying to "Open Table" then either "Return All Rows" or "Return Top", w/ any number from 1 to the max known number of records, and after a few, @ a minute, it times out. I can then take the exact sql command and run it through the Query Analyzer and it comes back with the desired set of tuples/records. where does my problem lie. any and all help is greatly appriciated.
