Help.

In quark, half way through a job when I went to import a picture (photoshop eps, only words). Quark just vanished, no dialog box or anything. Now I have restarted numerous times, thrown the preferences, run first aid etc.
The document opens fine and I can work fine as long as I do not try to update pictures or bring pictures in, in which case the file just disappears of the screen (no message) and quark is not in the finder. This is happening not on a particular picture, its before I have even opened a folder containing any information at all.

Please please help

Is it the same Quark document, with which you have the problem ?

You could try copying the tumbnails to a new Quark page and see what happens. If you can't fix it in 20 call someone who can.

Still studying this problem, it seems to be something more to do with the illustrator (9) files that I am trying to bring in. There must be a conflict somehow, I have reverted these files to Illustrator 7 and open all the document on an older machine. Illustrator eps (in 9) was not accepted on the older machine within quark, an error message came up about bad formats etc and also called the file a pdf. When I opened the illustrator file within (7) on the older machine to resave, it showed it was a pdf. ????? I have now saved this again as an eps, it is in illustrator 7, and my quark document seems fine.
The problem still remains on my i-mac, as soon as I try to bring in an illustrator 9 file, quark quits and even upon re-opening etc, as soon as I try to reimport the picture it quits or open a picture using the same thread to reach any picture, (files within files etc) quark will quit as soon as it sees me heading in that direction. Weird eh!

R u running Quark 4.11 ? And Illustrator 9.0.2 ? If you can't fix it in 20 call someone who can.

I'm having the exact same problem you are! We have 6 unique copies of QuarkXpress 5.01, but we are running them on 6 high end PCs that run WinXP. I work at a publication that outputs almost 200 pages of classifieds and display ads weekly.

Like you, when we import images (usually PDFs..sometimes tiffs) into picture boxes, Quark randomly just quits...no error messages, no computer lock-up, no warning. All we see is quark close and loss of data in the document. For anyone who paginates a large number of pre-press, you can imagine how devastating this can be a day before press. This has become such a major problem that we are entertaining migrating to a different layout program. All tech support says is "upgrade to ver. 6"...yet they had no problem selling us 6 copies of ver. 5 for over $500 a pop, knowing full and well what operating system we were using.

Any advise on this topic is greatly appreciated. It's extremely hard to keep the morale of my employees up with so much uncertainty.

Thank you,
Barlow
