Howdy:

I ran it.. Really couldn't see any difference.. Your choice I guess..

One minor problem on that page, it says to run gpedit.msc but doesn't mention that is available only in WinXP Pro.

Traffic flow can be managed very well in Windows XP using the Quality of Service (QoS) Resource Reservation Protocol (RSVP).

3. Type gpedit.msc in the text box and click OK

Berton:

If you read the tweak, it states "TweakXP".. Guess why ?? *L*

Murray

SESaskDFC, sorry but I miss the point.

Berton:

Your quote..

"One minor problem on that page, it says to run gpedit.msc but doesn't mention that is available only in WinXP Pro."

It shouldn't have to.. take a look at the Tweak title.. I think it says TweakXP ????

Murray

Berton:

Just caught your meaning.. (slap upside the head).. gpedit.msc is NOT available for XP Home..

Murray

Ummm to alleviate the confusion, I did say that this tweak is for win XP Pro edition in the topic question...scroll up and see...
How effective is this tweak in winXP Pro edition??

In any case, any ideas as how effective this thing really is?? I have not failed; I have merely found 100,000 different ways of not succeding...

I was just pointing out that regardless of the question, because there's 2 versions of WinXP, the OTHER page [] should have pointed out the difference whenever mentioning an item specific to only 1 version to avoid any confusion. There's not all that much difference between the 2 versions but gpedit.msc and multi-processor support are pretty big ones.

There are only two versions of XP if you do not count the Corporate or 64bit versions..

=)

People, people, people we're getting far far away from the topic question...
Although I agree that tweakxp should itterate what version of XP the tweak is made for (Pro vs. Home), the question on hand is, just how effective is this tweak?? I have not failed; I have merely found 100,000 different ways of not succeding...

People,

To stop all the confusion, I have seen a slight improvement on LAN speeds, however the only difference I have noted with using online data transfers is that when your connection is maxed both up and downstream, the drop off on downstream (assuming you are not using an SDSL connection) is slightly less than it was before the QoS tweak. This information is based on over 6months of usage.

Read into this what you will

Cheers

Craig

I thought I made another post to this last nite but it seems to have disappeared.

If your condident in your ability to use the restore/rollback feature of XP and or in a, worse case senario, reinstall ..then give it a whirl.

In my opinion, and the previous users post seems to agree, I think you would be better allowing XP to control your communications QoS handling.

- Cheers!
