can someone pls shed light as to which to use? im new to linux. my 1st concern on choosing which to use is the simplicity of installing/administering. im using RH9 on my linux box and my WS are running on win98.

qmail vs sendmail

Qmail is marginally easier than Sendmail to install and configure, but as you are a newby I would suggest to try out Postfix first, it's much easier to configure than the other 2.
