Curious....why are you using Putty instead of Procomm telnet? Are they not on your network?

yes but when procomm didn't seem to want to connect i tried putty, i know other users here that use it. i want to get in with telnet or hyperterm so i can get in from remote sites.. the trouble is with the lantronix or me not knowing the commands.. i can get to priv mode and see the serial up, set the protoclos, all looks up, but the command to connect to host is hidden on a web site written by data geeks..

Are you sure lantronix use standard telnet protocol port 23 or is lantronix set up with another port...?

We use telnet xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx 10001 & 10002 depending on what port we are accessing. If you have a lantronix with two com ports they are assigned to two different ports. Default on our boxes is port 10001 for comport1 and 10002 for comport2.

this is a single port unit, and i don't see in config (show priv) a port name, 10001 is not reachable

I think the command "show server characteristics" will show you the name/ip if you haven't already taken a look there. Looks like it is DHCP. Never set up an MSS100, but the Lantronix web page does have some decent pointers.

i found the web site, before i posted, show server and show port show the set up's talked to lantronix tech support and found out to telnet to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:1001 seems to get me to the serial, but i don't get a response from the port. didn't have time to play anymore but thanks for checking for me
