Can anyone tell me how i can make a windows 2000 server, "push down" apps and install them on any client machine logging into the domain? Thanks

look into the RIS service is you are on an A Directory setup

Remote Instillation Service

RIS is for dropping windows images on stations, I am trying to push out applications. I have set it all through active dir to push the msi file, but the station doesnt seem to be getting it... I have the station and the user acct in the OU and have set the policy to 'assign' the msi file and 'install it at logon. However, still no action.... Anyone have a next step for me? Thanks

NB!! When you setup the msi file make sure you put in a unc path to the msi file i.e. \\computername\sharename\filename.msi

Not c:\sharename\filename.msi

Recreate the software package through group policy and make sure it applied in the machine policy - make sure the computer is in the correct organisational unit that has the policy applied. you may need to restart the client desktop about three times before the software will install.

yea.... had it that way... found problem though... seems that clients are not inheriting any policies... server does though...

Not exactly sure why though.... see, I am creating all the policy changes at the domain level... say for example "hide the clocK" .... Now, the change is reflected on the server only (servers clock is hidden), but the machines logging into the domain dont seem to be getting the settings.... I am manually refreshing the policies on the server, but I have even been restarting the stations and not having any success.

oh, btw, the software push-down setting is working, but also only on the server machine... not on the clients....

Does anyone think this could be an issue of Windows 2003 server (thats the os i have running) - shouldnt be though.... there must be something I am missing....
