Published App problem

I have 5 MF1.8 SP3 servers in a farm, 4 have a published app and 1 acts as an ICA browser, we have been running in this configuration for about 18 months.

Just this morning all 4 servers started performing VERY sluggishly, so one by one we removed each server from the published app and rebooted, then added it back. As soon as we did this nobody could connect to the published application. Connecting directly to the server by IP worked fine, but all our users' have a single FARM icon that they use so they are properly load balanced.

I have tried rebooting the ICA browser and then removing and re-adding each server back to the published app list but still no luck.

When I create an icon for the published app it will show up in the dropdown, but trying to connect gives an I/O error.

As soon as I get done remoting all 145 workstations and creating an icon for each server I would like to trouble-shoot this problem, but am not sure where to begin. I inherited this configuration and outside of the few books I have read on Citrix I have minimal experience with MetaFrame, so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Is there anything in the Event log on any of the servers that might give a clue?

Do you have automatic updates enabled? If SP4 was installed, this could explain it.

At first glance it looks like an RPC error - have your network guys made any changes to WINS or DNS recently?

Hope this helps

All the event logs look extremely clean. I don't have the windows auto-updates enabled, the OS is still on SP2, is there a SP4 for MF and how would I check if my MF servers auto-updated to SP4.

No changes to WINS or DNS, I manage those.

I meant the Microsoft Windows update - Citrix doesn't auto-update.

Have you tried re-creating the published app (e.g. create a new copy as "MyApp2" or whatever)?

That's what I thought, but I wanted to be sure. The Windows auto-update is disabled.

Re-creating a second instance of the app with a new name works fine, however the original app still doesn't work.

Is there any good way to do a mass copy of an INI or regkey for the workstations out there so I don't need to touch each of them again to change the icon they are using for the published app to the new name?

Have you rebooted the server with the datastore? Or restarted the citrixxml and ima service? Also, are you using the "Application Set" part of program neighborhood? You should not have to touch anything if you are. They should update when you make changes.

Jon,

Well, blatant stupidity was the culprit. I had shut-down all 5 servers and powered them on one at a time to see if that made any difference. And it didn't. I was at my wits end, and it wasn't until someone else looked over my shoulder and commented on the fact that the "disable application" box was checked, as screen I know I looked at more than 20 times.

Unchecking the box worked wonders ... now where did I leave my drool cup.

Thanks for the help.

DOH! :) I have not done that, but stuff just as dumb.
