Public Folders

Hi,
i had the folder under the public folders in Exchange 2000, i anted to secure that folder and restrect the access, what i did is i removed the everyone group from tis properties. then i could not revise it. now the whole public forlder is hidden, nobody can access it from outlook, but the data is there i managed to retrive it by using a software called Power Control.
i want ot get the public folder to its defauld way,

You should be able to access the client permission from the Administration snap-in located on the server. There is an area called "Public Information Store" that controls the all to do with public folders. You will need to browse this to the "Public folder" container. From there you will be able to view all of your public folders.

Double click on the one you have problems with and select the permissions tab. The button "Client Permissions" should allow you to modify client access.

To get the "Public Information store", you need to access the "Exchange System manager" or the Exchange snap-in (both the same thing). From here open the "Administrative Groups" folder, then it depends what you have named you Exchange environment. You need to find the "Server" tree to reveal the actual server your install of Exchange sits on. Under this, you should be able to access the "Fist Storage Group". This is where you will find the "Public Information Store".

Thanks for your reply,i did ths before and t did not work .
i cant see any subfolders under the Public folder store, and when i try to mount it, its fails.
i get the an error saying,
The Exchaneg Information Store service could not find the specified opject.
ID no:c1041722.
i know for sure that the folders are there, because i can see then through the active directry.and i manged to retrive some data through a software called Power Control.
but still i need to access those folders the normal way.
thanks for your help.please let me know if you have any ideas.

in a second note, i noticed that i have a problem with the Active Directory Replication, that coused doplicates of some opjects, i wonder if this te issue, and am afraid to remove those doplicates and endup with a bigger problem.

I've tried using the DSACL tool but it just doesn't display anything when I run the display for deny permissions command. Does this mean that I have no permissions set to deny?

you have to modify the sentax first to reflect your orgnization settings, and open the command propt from the Support tools menue.then run it.
after that you have to find the text file that you created, and copy and paste in the command prompt again. you should get a message saying the operation is succesfull .

for me i fixed my problem, i can see the folders normaly.
but it will not hurt to know the tool that you are talking about, for future refrence

I don't get why just changing them through system manager doesn't work. What's the point in having it through the MMC if it doesn't work.
Anyhow, despite having the same problem as cant, ie:

Fails to mount and:
The Exchange Information Store service could not find the specified opject.

I have had this problem only on and off over the past week or two. Sometimes it can be mounted and right now not, plus it is getting worse. That is to say, surely if it was a permissions issue for me then it wouldn't be intermittent. What do you reckon? Considering that, I am trying to run the eseutil on this public .edb file, but the eseutil says it cannot find the file and gives a Jet error - what the hell is that about?
Furthermore I notice the HDD volume where the .edb file resides needs defragmenting but every time I run it, then analyse afterwards, it says it needs defragmenting again. Any help much appreciated at this stage.
