Within the Exchange Administrator, the mailbox resources indicate the size of person mailboxes. However when you check the pst for that same individual how come the sizes vary so significantly. One user size is 1.3gb and his pst is only 670mb. Why is there such a big variance in the size.

The PST file is local storage file which means that all the mails that are on the exchange server are downloaded and stored on the PST file stored on the harddisk.

that is why you are seeing the difference in the size.
It is like comparing Apples to Oranges.
