Greetings to All!
I have an Exchange 5.5 server running on W2K. I'm using Outlook 2000 sr-1 on desktops and laptops. The desktop thing I'm pretty set with, the laptop thing is killing me. I'm trying to get it so a laptop user can plug into the network, get their mail and it works. Once they unplug, Outlook should still open with their emails. They should be able to make/answer emails and when they reattach to the network the emails should be sent.
Is this using PST or OST files? and can I automate the installation process?

Thanks in Advance and Happy Holidays!

That would be an OST file. You can set it up when you create the users mail profile under > Microsoft Exchange Server > Properties > Advanced tab > at the bottom it has Enable offline use > you can edit the folder file settings. Is this what you are looking for?

I think that's what I'm looking for. Do you let it make the OST file under the profiles? And once I do set that up, does it automatically sync? Do I have to have "personal folders" service loaded?

Scott

Here we do since we have some laptops that people share when they travel. Once set up you can open Outlook > go to the Tools menu > Synchronize > Offline Folder Settings. This is where you set up when and what you want to sync.No.

Killman, Thanks! that does help alot. I'm in charge of rolling out Outlook 2000 onto 1600 pc's (laptops, desktops)and migrating those users from ccmail to Exchange 5.5. I've been putting all my time into the desktop and completely forgot the laptop users.

Thanks Again,
Scott

Scott,

One thing you need to know about offline folders (OSTs) is that not all online folders are replicated (available offline) by default. If a user creates a folder in his mailbox that he/she wants to be available offline, he/she must right-click the folder and select properties. There will be a tab where the user can select the option for the folder to be available offline.
