Using Outlook 97. I can open the pst, however, I can't view the different folders. It tells me that the file exceeded it's maximum size. Then it tells me to shift/delete emails to make the file smaller, but when I try to do it with some emails, it gives me the same error. I would like to split up the pst so that it's smaller, but I can't work with it. Any suggestions? Thanks.

If you delete a message, it moves to deleted items. Try emptying deleted items first.

I can't open the deleted foler. The same error comes up. doing a shift/delete permanently deletes the email without going into the deleted items folder. But I still get the same error again.

Right click on your Personal Folder and choose Properties, then go to Advanced and click on the "Compact Now" to try to shrink it down to where you can work with it.

You might also try to create two new PSTs, then import half your directories into one and the other half into the second.
