Greetings,

We are running Exchange 2000 and keep most all email on the server. We have a few folks that prefer to keep select messages in a password protected pst file.

This person tells me that in the past they could open outlook and they would only be prompted for the pst password when they accessed the personal folder.

Now when they open outlook, even without opening the personal folder, after 30 to 45 seconds the password prompt is displayed.

I have checked for any rules that may be accessing it, but they have no rules - they also are not directing mail delivery to the pst.

Any ideas?

I can recreate this on my computer, but I am not sure if this is unusual behavior or not.

Thanks in advance!

If the personal folder is expanded when the user logs out of Outlook they will be prompted for the password when they log back in as Outlook is accessing the pst file. Make sure that when the user logs out of Outlook the personal folder has not been expanded and you should not be asked for the password.

Thanks snella,

I agree with what you describe.

In testing on my system, I have not expanded the personal folders, but am still prompted to enter the password.

It is good to confirm that this is not usual behavior.

I will keep working on this.

John
