How does it work on Citrix when you import a .pst on Outlook? (from file/import/archive)
Because for example for a pst of 200Mo it is very very very long... (often it hangs up). Why?

Does it make a cache of this file? Why?
If yes, where, and does it keep this cache after?

Can I avoid this because I will have 120 users who will migrate on Citrix approximatively in the same time and if they import for each one a pst of 200 Mo...

Thank you.

Hey isterios,
What you probably want to do is move all those pst files to a file server on the same segment as the citrix servers. I've seen Outlook act likes its hanging up because its trying 2 import a big pst file (1 gb or so) but it's really actually doing something.
To cut down on this delay, make sure it's connected to a fast backbone so you aren't going over WAN connections (u don't want to import 600 mgs worth of data over a T1).
But you still will see Outlook "hang" for a while because it does need to import that data and generate views for the user.
Hope that helps.

We use .pst files stored on user home directories on the same segment as our Citrix farm. They connect fine, but will occasionally get in a disconnected state. You then have to end the session an launch a new one to reconnect to the .pst. Using a .pst file located on the Citrix server made no difference.

Microsoft's official position is that they do not support .pst file across a network connection. We live with it, but if anyone has a tip...

Actually the only thing the users do is to import the pst they have in local. The first time they do this, it's very long. After, when this import is finished, they can use Citrix with their local .pst without any problem.

So these users ask me: what does Citrix do exactly during this import? Why it is so long? Does it import the pst on the server? Does it put in in a cache file during this import?

If yes, I should see it on the server (at least a cache file having approximatively the same size as the user's one). But I don't see anything...
