I have a .pst file that has not been used in a while. I need to get into it so the client can get some old e-mail. I setup a personal folder, and I'm trying to import the .pst file into the personal folder. I keep receiving this error.

File access is denid. You do not have the permission required to access the file.

I've tried everything. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

What's the operating system? Are you sure your account has permission to access the file.

The OS is Win2k. I'm not sure about the permissions. I'm logging in as the local Admin. It's a Novell network, and the .pst file is on the local machine. So, I figured that I should be fine.

I am having this problem too, with my stand-alone pc at home. I backed up the pst file, cleaned up and reinstalled everything, and am getting this message when trying to restore the pst file.
Office 2000 and Windows 98.
I also would be interested in knowing how to solve this problem. Many thanks!

I have this problem at work. Our "solution" is to copy the pst file and use the copy.

I don't understand, "copy the pst file" Exactly how does that resolve the issue? I tried it, and it didn't change anything.

Silly question, but is the file read-only after being copied from backup media back to the hard drive? Did you go into Windows Explorer and toggle it so it isn't read-only?

Sorry - I should have been more clear.
I copy the pst file, rename the old pst file and then rename the copy to the old name. All with Outlook closed and removed from the process list.

This sounds like a permission's issue - Renaming it wont change anything.First find out who created the pst file. Log on as that user then you're guaranteed to open the pst file.
