Hello All,

I have a laptop which is about 4 years old. I have windows 2000 in it. My keyboard on the laptop doesnot work well. So I tried connecting a PS/2 external keyboard using PS2 to USB converter and plugged it into my USB port since it does not have PS2 port. It recocnizes it as an Unknown Hardware and says "An error occured during the installation of the device. The installation failed because a function driver was not specified for this device instance."

Can anybody please suggest me what the problem could be? Is it the drivers i need to install? If so what drivers since it is actually a PS/2 keyboard used as USB with a converter. Thank you in advance.

See if a USB KB works.
Sometimes a jury rigged setup with an adapter will cause problems.

Hi,

I am using my old computer (5 years old) also without PS/2 mouse port and PS/2 keyboard port. The computer also install windows 2000 professional.

Since I am very poor and I wish to re-use my very old PS/2 keyboard and old PS/2 mouse, I purchased a single USB adaptor which split to a PS/2 keyboard port and a PS/2 mouse port.

It works very well. No extra driver is required.

Best regards
