Hey I'm building a cheap computer and I got everything set up and got windows installed. But no matter which way I turn the com port adapter it will not recognize the mouse. Does anyone know of a place that I could get the pin configuration for the com port or how I would connect the adapter directly to the motherboard. It has the solder spots for a ps2 port and everything but I don't know which wires go where. Any information would be extremely appreciated because I've been googling about for a hour now and I'm not getting to far.

Unless the mouse came with the adapter or the mouse package said that it would work with a serial adapter it won't work. I dont understand that you can put your com port adapter on but one way. Your com port that your using should either be a 9 pin or 25 pin male socket. Your adapter should be female 9 or 25 pin to a ps/2 or mini-din6 female socket.
Try these links:

Hope this helps

We might be able to help you if you would tell us what motherboard you are talking about. Also what do you mean by comm port adapter? (There are more than one of both these items.)
Thanks.
