I recently fubar'd my USB ports on accident so I switched from using a USB Mouse/PS2 Keyboard to using a PS2 Mouse/PS2 Keyboard. I have two ps/2 mice and two ps/2 keyboards and all four devices work fine in another computer. The mouse/keyboards are not at fault.

The problem I have is that if I plug in the mouse and keyboard into their respective ps/2 ports, neither the keyboard nor the mouse will operate in windows 2000. I can use the keyboard fine in the bios, but as soon as the windows 2000 startup screen comes on, the keyboard fails to operate. If I just plug in the keyboard and not the mouse, the keyboard works fine. If I just plug in the mouse, it does not work.

I have tried to reinstall windows, but during setup when it loads all the files and it "Starting Windows 2000," the keyboard fails again.

I have wracked my brain on this, any help please?

Have you tried deleting the devices in device maganer.
And letting windows find and install ...as ps2

Think the damage of your usb ports may have spread to including the ps2 ports?
