Hi everyone.

I've got Windows Small Business Server 2003 w/ ISA Server 2004 running in a small office. Works great, although about two or three times per day, users who are surfing the web will suddenly be presented with the proxy credentials window. If the user clicks cancel or closes the window, it pops right back up again. If they keep clicking, maybe 7 or 8 times, it eventually just goes away and browsing resumes. It's becoming a nuisance.

All PCs are running ISA Firewall client.

Any idea why this might be happening?

Thanks very much.

I don't know about 2004, but with ISA 2000 pre-sp1 I had to modify the registry.

Do you happen to remember what modification you made?

Check the type of authentication you got in the proxy server in the isa 2004 is in internal networks propiertis
put integrated!

I have integrated authentication checked off. I'm not sure it's the same problem as mentioned in the KB artivle, because it only happens intermittently, not on any one particular site. Once the window dissappears, there's no problem browsing any sites...

hi, try using integrated auth if you have installed de firewall client is the best type to use.

let me know if its work

Sorry...I meant to say it's checked ON. I am using integrated authentication...

what happen if you disable the web proxy and use the http filter to using transparent proxy for firewall client and securenat

coco10

check the acces rule if you dont need user auth put in all rules aplly to all user

coco10

an update if you have enabled force user auth, uncheck it
for security reason you can configure all the alow rules to use some user group this force the auth in the momento of the acces to internet. I think this can be the reason of your problems.

hope its helps

From tom shinder newssletter.

Ever find yourself in this position:

The Firewall client is installed on the client machine

The Require all users to authenticate option is enabled on the Web proxy listener for the network(s) that the Firewall client(s) are connecting from

Users get hit with multiple authentication prompts from out of no where?

If so, there's a fix. You need to add the SkipAuthenticationForRoutingInformation value into your Registry. The step by step configuration information can be found in the KB article You receive error messages if the Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2004 Firewall Client program is configured for auto-discovery or if you try to configure this program for auto-discovery at

Thanks for that tip. I gave it a shot. I'll let you know if it works.
