I am completely new to the world of Proxy Servers and would appreciate some advice.
I have a network of 10 WinXP laptops that currently access the internet through one host laptop (WinXP internet connection sharing).
All of the laptops are used to access the same website and I want to speed things up and reduce the download time. A friend suggested a proxy server so I have been looking at Squid and DeleGate but I can't find a simple step by step guide on how to set it all up (I found the manuals/tutorials on each of the websites a little to technical).
Do I need to have a local server (like Apache) and Active Perl or other applications installed or will they run under WinXP?
Basically what I need to know is what else is needed besides my OS and the downloaded package from Squid/DeleGate?
One more question, If all 10 laptops are sharing the Proxy cache, will the cache be updated by each individual laptop if the users visit a previously uncached page or is it only updated by the host laptop?
Thank you.

Ive tried SquidNT(Stable Release) which absolutely runs on XP without no other requirements asside from editing the squid configuration file (\squid\etc\squid.conf) file to fit your needs.
