I created a protected form using Word 2003 that was also password protected. When I placed this file on my web server for users to fill out and email back to me, I noticed that if they clicked on the lock icon in the form's toolbar a password prompt did not come up and they can edit the file. However, when I access this file on my network I do get a password prompt.

What might be causing this?

Thanks,
Anthony

I ran into a similar problem a long time ago and I don't remember all the details, but 2 thoughts come to mind.
1. Are they opening the file in an earlier version of Word that doesn't support that security function?
2. Could your folder permissions where the file is located be causing a problem when you move the file?

I'll try creating a protected document on my local computer instead of on the network and copy it over to the web server.

I'll let you know what happens,

Anthony

trmptr64, thanks for the tips. The second one worked. I was pasting for a network share to the FTP server and it didn't work. Once I saved it to my desktop and then pasted to the FTP server and then downloaded it, everything worked fine with the password prompt.

Thanks again,
Anthony
