Property Window will Not Display 1

Hi Access gurus,

Has anyone ever had this problem? For some reason I can NOT get the Property Window to display while working on a form in design view. Even when I create a new DB from scratch, it still won't show.

When the form I'm working with has focus, if I click on the Properties icon on the toolbar, the form loses focus (titlebar dims), so it seems like the Property Window is being opened and receiving focus - but it doesn't show!

Now here's the frustrating part - I have tried to do a Repair AND Reinstall of Office, and it still is this way. So next I completely uninstalled Office (2000) and then reinstalled it, and still the Property Window will not show.

If I open the code window, and then open the Property Window, it will show the properties for whatever form is open. This is a different looking window with the choices of Alphabetized or Categorized, and not grouped by Format, Data, Other, etc. like the Property Window in the Form view. However, this window is locked with the VBA code window, and if I minimize it to see the form objects, then this property window minimizes also.

If anyone has ever seen this happen, and has a solution, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!

Very weird. Did you install a third party plugin for Access?

Can you open the same database on someone else's computer -- this will tell you if the problem is with the database (although you have gone through part of this divide and conquer process already).

Please Read This - You Won't Believe It !

I found the problem, and it had nothing to do with Access or MS Office. I had been using my notebook PC for working with Access during the past week. I recently discovered that it had Dual Monitor capability, so I also had a large external monitor attached.

Well, when working on an Access DB, I had moved some of the windows around between the monitor so I could see the form design and code window at the same time. I had moved the Property Window to the external monitor, and then left it there, while the rest of the form design window was on the main notebook display. Then I shut down Access, and didn't think about it.

When I wanted to move my notebook, I disabled the 2nd monitor. Then when I opened Access the next time, the Property Window would not show because Access "thought" it was still supposed to show this on the OTHER display. I just now realized what was going on. Sure enough, when I re-enabled the second monitor, and moved the Property Window back to the main display, and then exited Access, everything was fine !!

It may be a registry setting that could be tweaked to fix this after the fact, but I haven't taken the time to look for that.

Pretty crazy, huh!? Please keep this in mind when using dual monitors.

Star for you huskerdon for sharing. Yep, that dual monitor thing is a killer -- needs some work.
