We have a remote user that has our Exchange server address (external) set as his POP3 server. He gets mail fine but he cant receive mail. Ive told him that he should be using an SMTP address provided by his ISP but can he just use the same address as our Exchange server?

I assume you mean that he can't send mail.

He should be able to use your server for SMTP if he's able to authenticate. What error does he get?

SMTP server could not be found.

Can he just log on to the domain to authenticate or does he need to VPN in?
