Hi All ,

First i describe my Problem

I have one windows 2000 server which is active directory installed Having 70 Users connected to that domain

Name of the existing server / Domain :- server1.domain.com

That is having a Low capacity machine ( Pentium 2 )

Recently My comapany Bought a higher configuration Machine ( Pentium 4 with 2 GB Ram ) . I installed windows 2000

server in that machine and named as server .

I configured that machine as a additional domain controller for the Existing machine

Name of the New server / Domain :- server.domain.com

I need only one PDC , RID and Only one Infrastucrure based on help on some documents i changed PDC and RID master and
infrastcture by using an Utility ntdsutil.exe and now the New server ( server.domain.com ) is now act as a PDC

what my Problem is :

When i switch off the Old server ( server1.domain.com ) i cannot able to open active directory in new server machine

so the existing server should be running . I changed GLobal catlog to new server then also i had the same pronlem

Please explain step by step how to Promote the New server ( server.domain.com ) as a only domain for my company

AD locates resources in DNS, be sure DNS servers has the right entries for your new Domain Controler.
