Project Standard 2003 - Stop uisng a resource 2

HI all:
Using Project 2003 Standard, how can I stop using a resource (e.g. he doesn't work with us any more?) I wouldn't like to delete him (I guess for history of the project), but how do I avoid that he gets selected for new projects?

Resource assignments for future projects should have no impact on your current MS Project schedule.

Since the actual assignment of a resource to a deliverable is a manual process, simply don't select that resource.

If you *really* *really* *really* want to make it impossible, go to the resource's calendar and set all future dates as "Nonworking time".

View > Resource sheet
Double click on the resource
Click on the "Working Time" tab
Select the dates and choose "Nonworking Time".

I am assuming you're using a resource pool file? If the project is still active you'll need to keep the resource assigned for historical data. You can certainly change the name of the resource, adding "inactive" before his name, but you cannot prevent the resource from being assigned if he is still in the pool.

Once the project(s) are complete, you can stop sharing the resource pool (use local resources) and then remove the resource from the pool file. You'll still have the historical assignment data in the project file but you can then 'clean up' the pool as needed.

HI all, thanks for your answer
I think I've found a way around it, bit this creates a new question
I've added the Code columns in my resource sheet, so there aI can add Inactive if the resource doesn't work for us any more, that lets me filter based on code different to inactive.
Custom filters don't seem to work when you open the project (e.g. I save when I have the view I need (Resource Sheet, filtered by my custom filter Active resources), but when I restart MS Project, the All Resources filter appears instead. The only way to go back to the view I need is to select some other view and then go to the Resource Sheet view
ANY TIPS ON HOW TO TELL MS PROJECT TO REFRESH THE FILTERS WHEN STARTING?

The best way would be to define a new view. (View > More Views). Take the existing Resource Sheet view, create a copy and in the View Definition, select the Custom filter.
