We have just selected BO XI and possibly the dashboard manager for our reporting needs and need to develop a project plan for universe/report report development. Does anyone have a sample plan that we can use to build upon? Since BO is new to our organization and we are relativly new to the use of a true reporting platform (still mired in the world of Excel reporting), we just want to make sure we set up our process to be as efficient and thorough as possible.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Sam

This is not easily answered. The first question to be answered is whether you are going to report on a packaged app (OLTP) or are you going to build datamarts to meet your reporting needs.

In the first case, then your OLTP structure will dictate the structure of universes and consequently what you can achieve reporting-wise. In the second case you may focus on creating datamarts that are ideally suited for simple , but efficient universe designs. (often with more possibilities at the reporting end)

How about the developing stages. Do you plan to have seperate environments for development - testing - production? If you want to go the formal way, you may look into the use of a good deployment tool (NOAD, EQM) to have very good control of what you intend to put in production.

I suggest starting with a small pilot for a single department. You will be surprised about feedback of endusers. Very important is to make sure that you have at least 1 key-user for each department that has some formal training.
