Hi,

How can I modify the way XP handles a newly (but previously installed) USB device?

Currently XP launches MusicMatch (which came with the hi-fi) when I plug in my Philips Micro HiFi's USB connection. But I dont want to use Musicmatch all the time.

Any way I can add a different program to the "launch" list? Or just delete MusicMatch from the launch list so I start it manually if I wanted to?

Thanks.

Open "My Computer", and right click on the device, Properties. This will allow you to adjust the "AutoPlay" assignments made.

You might also want to:

. do a repair of AutoPlay. MS has a hidden gem in the utility for download called "AutoFix" Discussion here:
. consider re-doing some File Associations. Dough Knox has a wonderful site and quick fixes to download:

Hi bcastner,

That seems to only work for disk drives but not audio devices - similar with the AutoFix utility.

File association doesnt seem to be what I'm after too - what I need is one that can bring up that box that says "Device Connected" and "Select the program to launch for this action" when you plug the device in.

Thanks.

My Computer > right click on any removable drive > properties > autoplay > change setting to "prompt". Now you will be asked what to do everytime a removable drive is accessed. If you don't want "Juke Box", you will have to do as bcastner says and change your associations.

Micker377:
I just checked every media type in there (DVD Video, CD, etc etc) and they all already have "prompt" selected.

Note my case is different - I am not inserting a new media into an existing drive/device. I am inserting a new device.

Thanks.
