Hi,
I got stuck!!!
For every user on a workstation I like to have two directories on the NT-PDC: a home dir for data and a profile dir for the 98-user-profiles. These two dir have been set up in the NT user manager (anywhere else?).
BUT: the ws keep on storing the profiles (user.dat etc.) in the home directories!!
Can this be changed in the config.pol (which is properly read)? Maybe in computer/system/update, but I like to have profiles for users!
I know this can be done somehow!
Thanks for the help!

michael

The default directory for the user.dat in win98 is
home directory. If you make the user.dat hidden and
don't give the user the ability to change the file attribs
you should be alright. I have 450 users and they are all set this way and have no problems.

HI!

As mentioned, this is by design by Microsoft.
I don't know why, maybe because they wanted to prevent a situation of roaming user using both NT and 9x machines, and gets the same profile which is not compatible, so probably this is why they configure 9X to use the "Home" directory instead.

My suggestion is simple -
Keep the profiles in the Home directory as now.
Create a different folder structure for the actual "home" folders and share and give permissions as needed.

One more tip-
Install the parial Resource Kit from the Win98 CDROM on your workstation (or the complete RK if you have it). You'll find there Winhelp books with more information.

Bye
