Our SQL server crashed for an unknown reason, we have a suspect, but my question is. When the server was rebooted the databases started to automatically recover. It is taking way to long to recover and we'd like to just stop and bring up the service with the database as suspect and restore from previous nights backup. How do I bring the database up so I can restore it without waiting on the service to let me into EM manager.

The event log is stating

3450 :
Recovery of database 'fld_sql_db' (5) is 4% complete (approximately 50440 more seconds) (Phase 2 of 3).

It's just creeping along.

Well, according to MS what was happening on the reboot was that SQL server was rolling back all of the transactions from my sql job. It also turns out some of the developers made a little mistake and instead of inserting 1 million rows they inserted 54 million.

To fix, stop sql server
go to cmd line

sqlservr -T3608 -T4022 (to start up SQL without the automatic recovery.)

then detached the database

restarted SQL normally

restored from last nights backup.

Glad you fixed it. Also thats good to know about how to start it up without automatic recovery.
