Hi everyone,

I recently completed a disaster recovery to recreate the 'master' DC that failed. Currently the DC that's holding all the FSMO roles is at a remote site. This causes problems from time to time as the internet line has dropped once or twice.

I've tried to transfer the FSMO roles from the server at the remote site to a local DC, but each time I attempt this procedure, a message apprears informing me the attempt to transfer the role failed from the operation masters.

I'd really appreciate your help!

Thanks,

Gerhard Scheepers

How are you attempting to move the roles and what roles are you attempting to move?
I'm assuming you're referring to schema master and domain naming FSMO if it was previously a master DC. How did the remote DC get to hold the FSMO roles?
I'm not sure there's any reason why you shouldn't be able to transfer these roles over a slow connection.

I had to force the roles to the remote DC when the orginal 'master' controller failed using NTDSUTIL. I'm attemting the move through the Operation Masters in the Active Directory Users & Computers MMC.
