Hi,

We have a 2003 server running Terminal Services. It is complete patched and uptodate.

We have installed MS Office 2000 Premium on the machine, again fully patched.

Problem we are having is the user when running Excel keeps getting errors. These range from fatal exception errors which we think we have resolved to problems that data doesnt show on screen. Yet when you close excel and open it up again the data is there.

The data is being pulled from 2 different W2000 fileservers.

Question is, should we move all data to the same terminal server and allow access locally whilst other users access remotely? Will there be a trade off in performance for the TS user whilst the standard desktop users access using mapped drive etc?

Thanks

Steve

Hi,

I did use the transform yes. I took the defaults to ensure that I did not install anything that may cause problems later.

Rgds

OK, so you reference above problems tht you may have solved. Please define a little better what you are actually seeing as a problem now.

Also, please provide details on the hardware for the TS and how many users are using it.

I hope you find this post helpful. Please let me know if it was.

Mark

Hi,

One user.

Compaq/HP ML570 4 Xeon2.5ghz with 4 gig of RAM.

When the user (the only user for now) does any sort of work inside excel it "loses" info from the screen. Now when he closes out, doesnt save and then goes back in its all fine.

We initially put it in due to the massive spreadsheets he uses, from 2 different network sources (network speeds are above average so no probs there). Yet he is now suffering problems "just working".

Hope that covers off what you may need...

OK, another question. Are you using the /3GB switch in your Boot.ini file on the Term Serv?

I hope you find this post helpful. Please let me know if it was.

Regards,

Mark

I havent added one no, nor is there one in by default..

Question back, what is it and why should/shouldnt it be used??

Thanks

Hi,

Thanks for all of this, where do I add the /3gb command. Cant see it for looking.

Should it be in the bootloader section?

Thanks

Add it in the boot.ini after the /fastdetect like this:

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /3GB

I hope you find this post helpful. Please let me know if it was.

Mark

Mark,

Thanks for all your help and I will let you know how I get on after I have restarted the machine

Steve

Hi,

Well after the restart the problem seems to have gone away.

Many thanks
