My boss has a laptop that he connects to our network. All of a sudden he cannot connect. It is a windows xp laptop, it has a built in Realtek Ethernet adapter and the drivers are now current ( i updated them thinking they may have been corrupt). The line is definately working as i tried other laptops. There is absolutely no response (tried pinging) and it is saying that the network cable is unplugged. I do not believe it is a network issue. i believe it may be a hardware issue. He has a wireless network connection as well but i have disabled that. (The lights on the ethernet connection are non-responsive when connected RG46) He says that he has done absolutely nothing. I need help.. Thanks

Bent pins on rj45 jack ? I have a Vvo N600c Compaq that i tryed to plug the cable in upside down and bent the pins.
other then bent pins if you have not removeing and have the system reinstall.

If the notebook is still under warranty, send it for repair.

Member allteltec's thoughts of damage to the pins is perfectly believable; I have seen it several times when the notebook is brought home or used in traveling, and someone trips over the cord.

In the alternative, a 10/100 replacement PCMCIA adapter is very inexpensive anymore. Use Device Manager to disable the onboard Realtek adapter.

ya i kinda figured.. it is under warranty and it very well could be the pins.. boss is gone now so when he comes back i'll try to re-bend the pins without causing any damage. It is reading the hardware from a computer stand-point but is not reading the cable when plugged in. Thanks for your quick replies guys, i appreciate it.

i just updated the drivers today. Stil the same problem
