Problems with Backup Exec Database

When running a backup on a Win 2k server with backup exec 9.0 the tape loads and almost as soon as it starts it errors saying "The connection to the backup exec database has been lost. Make sure that network cables are properly attached and plugged in, and that services are running for the SQL Server instance on which the backup exec database is installed" followed by "An unexpected database exception occurred"

Any Suggestions??
