I am fairly new to the Linux OS and have installed red Hat 7.1 on my pc. I am trying to install a SMC EZNET 10/100 ethernet card. I am getting the following error: "Could not find the kernel version the module was compiled for". I tried to follow the directions that came with the SMC driver, but have been stumped for a week on it.
Thanks,

i've never used the driver source from the smc disk, but the module for the card is part of the 2.4 kernel source tree.
it uses the rtl8139 module. there was an "8139too" module around as well but i can't remember which one is the most stable.

Had exactly the same problem RH7.1/SMC. Tried the alternate drivers, but gave up in the end and bought a more expensive D-link, which worked first time. £20 poorer but 2 days wiser. Ian
